Apprentice Disregard

The Council Tax charge is based upon the number of people living in a property. If you are 'disregarded' it means that we do not count you when we work out the number of people living there.

If only one adult is counted as living in the property, you may qualify for a 25% single person discount.

You may qualify for an Apprentice Disregard if you are undertaking training while employed and meet the criteria below.

Who can qualify?

You may qualify as an apprentice if you:

• Are employed for the purpose of learning a trade, business, profession or vocation
• Are undertaking training leading to an accredited qualification
• Expect to earn substantially more once qualified.

There is no age limit for this disregard.

Evidence required

You will need to provide:

• Details of the qualification being studied
• Course start and end date
• Employer details
• Recent wage slips.

Youth Trainee

You may qualify if you:

• Are under 25 years old
• Have an individual training plan under an approved training scheme
• Are taking part in a recognised training programme, examples are Youth Training/Credits, Options, Future and Next Step.

Applicants must meet the statutory definition of a youth trainee.

Evidence required

You will need to provide evidence from your training provider confirming that you are participating in an approved training programme and that you meet the eligibility criteria.
