Apply or renew your badge
There is currently extremely high demand for the services, so please see guidance below on when to apply to allow sufficient time for assessment to be completed where applicable. Depending on the type of assessment you require, this will dictate how long the process takes.
Applying online is the easiest and quickest way to get a Blue Badge.
Completing this form if you qualify automatically takes less than 15 minutes. Completing the full form for assessment takes approximately 30 minutes.
If you find this difficult, you can ask family or friends to apply on your behalf or use a computer for free at anyone of the borough’s libraries.
Applying for the First Time
If you automatically qualify for a Blue Badge, it is likely the process will take up to 12 weeks. However, if further assessment is required, the process could take up to 6 months.
Renewing your badge
We treat each renewal like a new application, to make sure we only issue Blue Badges to those who meet the criteria.
You will need to provide the first six digits of your Blue Badge number. If you are aged below 67 years and have been advised previously by the Centre for Independent Living (CIL) that a re-assessment will be required, please re-apply 6 months before your badge expires to allow enough time to complete a further assessment.
An assessment will not be needed if you automatically qualify for a blue badge, or you have previously been assessed by the Centre for Independent Living and your award letter states that the award has been made on an indefinite basis and you will not need a further assessment.
The earliest we can order your new badge is eight weeks before your current badge expires.
To complete the form, you will need to provide:
- Proof of entitlement or medical evidence
- Proof of address
- A digital photograph
Details of these proofs can be found here. You’ll need to have a photo of each of these, or have them scanned onto your computer, phone or tablet, so that you can upload them on to the application form. The form accepts PNG, GIF, JPG or PDF files no larger than 20MB. Upload your supporting documents as requested to ensure a complete application process.
You can save your progress when entering an email address, this allows you to return to the application within 30 days.
If you don't provide all documents when submitting your online application, you will have 28 days from the date of application to provide all documents; you will be sent a link which will enable you to upload documents via a portal. Any applications which do not have the necessary documents attached within 28 days of application will be closed.
