Blue Badges

Blue badges are to help people who have a disability or hidden disability to make it easier for them to travel. Find out if you're eligible and apply or renew here.

About Blue Badges

A Blue Badge is a pass that allows disabled people to park closer to their destination. It is a national scheme that operates in England, Scotland, and Wales. The badge is free to use and is valid for up to three years. Blue Badges are issued to the qualifying person who can then use them as a driver or a passenger in a vehicle.

How long your Blue Badge is valid

A Blue Badge is issued for a maximum of 3 years. However, there are a few exceptions:

  • If you are no longer receiving qualifying benefits, such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS), your badge may expire sooner.
  • For children under 3 years old, the badge will expire on the day after their 3rd birthday. You can reapply for a new badge 3 months before your child's 3rd birthday. The process for applying for a Blue Badge is the same for children over 3 years old.
