How Council Tax Reductions are paid
When your reduction starts
Your Council Tax Reduction (CTR) is credited to your Council Tax account, and you will receive a revised bill showing your new balance and how your reduction has been worked out.
We normally work out your CTR from the Monday after the date we receive your claim form.
Backdating your claim
You may be able to have your claim backdated if you had a good reason for not applying earlier.
You must ask us to backdate your claim in writing and explain why you could not apply earlier. We may ask you to provide evidence to support your request.
We can backdate your claim for up to 3 months. In exceptional circumstances, we may consider backdating for a longer period.
If your claim is backdated, the reduction will be credited to your Council Tax account, and you will receive a letter to confirm this and a new bill.
