2025/26: Councillor Ken McGlashan
Councillor Ken McGlashan was born in Ellison Street, Old Swan, Liverpool, but has been a resident of Page Moss for the last 87 years. He was an only child to Duncan and Anne McGlashan.
Ken is a former pupil of St Dominic’s Primary School and St Aloysius Primary and Secondary School. Ken was married to his wife, Patricia, in St. Anne’s Cathedral, Leeds, in 1955, and they were together for 43 years.
Ken and Patricia have 9 children, 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, the majority of whom have been educated, and live, in Page Moss.
Ken started his working life as an apprentice coal miner at Cronton Colliery and he recently received an email stating that he is one of the last surviving ex-miners who worked there. He then joined the Royal Corps of Signals as a regular soldier in 1955.
In the remaining part of Ken’s working life, he was a long-distance lorry driver. He started his own haulage business in the 1960s until he had to retire due to health problems.
Public life
Ken was first elected to Knowsley Council in 1996 and has represented Page Moss Ward (formerly known as Princess Ward) for the last 29 years.
Since being elected Ken has been appointed to a wide range of committees including to name just a few:

Interests
Ken’s interests include anything DIY. He also used to play football many years ago in the Business Houses League. Ken loves to travel and enjoys finding out about his ancestry and then visiting those places. Ken loves exploring new places he has never been before and is particularly looking forward to embarking on his next adventure to London visiting Harry Potter Studios and having dinner in Kew Gardens.
