Ways to pay

Direct Debit

We recommend that you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit because it is the quickest, easiest and safest way to pay your council tax bill.  Payments are made automatically - so you're less likely to forget to pay.

Pay online

Payment made during normal working hours are credited the next working day. Payments made overnight are credited to your account within two working days.

Security Information

Security Information

All online card payments are protected by Transport Layer Security (TLS), as recommended by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council and are directly processed using the Pay360 by Capita service.

Capita's online payment management solutions are independently and rigorously security assessed and are certified by Visa and MasterCard as a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Level 1 payment processor.

Paying your Council Tax

Pay by phone

Call our 24-hour payment line on 0151 443 4476, and select option 1

Paypoint

At any shop displaying the Paypoint symbol. Please be aware that it can take up to 10 days for the payment to appear on your Council Tax account.

Cheque or postal order

Send to: The Executive Director (Resources), Municipal Buildings, Archway Road, Huyton, L36 9YU. Please cross cheques and postal orders, make them payable to Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, and write your Council Tax account number on the back.

Standing order

Our bank account details are: Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Sort code: 20-51-02, Account number: 73951685. Quote your Council Tax account number, including the ‘CT’ prefix. Please make sure the payment is made at least 7 days before the instalment due date.

You must be the account holder to set up any of these payment methods.

Changing your instalment date

Your Council Tax bill explains how much you need to pay and when. If payment is not made on time, we will issue a reminder notice. You may also receive a reminder if you are paying regularly but after the dates shown on your bill.

Setting up a Direct Debit or payment arrangement allows you to;

  • Choose a payment date 1st, 5th, 15th or 24th of the month
  • Spread payments over up to 12 monthly instalments, (April to March). The number of instalments will depend on the date you request the change.

What to do if you can’t pay

If you’ve missed a payment or received a reminder or final notice

If you have missed a payment but have not yet received a summons, you can still change your instalment date or set up a payment arrangement using the form above.

If you’ve received a court summons or Liability Order

You may still be able to set up a special payment arrangement. Find out what to do here.
