Terminal Illness Council Tax Discount (From 1 April 2026)
From 1 April 2026, households may qualify for a Council Tax discount of up to 100% if someone living in the property has been diagnosed as terminally ill. To qualify, the person must live at the property and have a completed SR1 medical report confirming their diagnosis. You will need to provide a copy of the SR1 form when applying.
The discount starts from the date the SR1 form was issued (but not before 1 April 2026) and will continue until the person no longer lives at the property, or for up to eight weeks after their death.
