Proposed cycleway on Wilson Road – Huyton Active Travel Corridor

Find out about the proposed cycleway on Wilson Road – Huyton Active Travel Corridor here.

Following on from correspondence in 2023 regarding proposals to improve active travel infrastructure in Huyton, funding has now been secured to deliver the scheme.

The proposals include the creation of a new cycleway along Wilson Road, linking Huyton Business Park to Huyton Village Centre via St John’s Road, St Mary’s Road, The Orchard, and Blacklow Brow. The cycleway will be delivered by widening the existing footway into the grass verge, improving connectivity and encouraging walking and cycling. Two new controlled pedestrian and cycle crossings will also be introduced at key locations to enhance safety and accessibility.

The scheme will include:

  • Introduction of traffic calming measures in the form of sinusoidal humps on St Mary’s Road, St Agnes Road and Graham’s Road (as shown on drawing PT/TM/8397)
  • A 20mph speed limit on the lengths of road marked within the red line boundary (drawing PT/TM/8397)
  • A one-way system on St Mary’s Road with St John’s Road, permitting traffic to travel in an easterly direction only (drawing PT/TM/8397)
  • In order to support these improvements, it is proposed to introduce two new signalised crossings and one upgrade from a zebra crossing to a signalised crossing on the location of the road (drawing PT/TM/8398-8400)
  • To improve highway safety and accessibility, it is also proposed to introduce double yellow lines (No Waiting at Any Time) on Wilson Road (drawing PT/TM/8398-8400)

The consultation will run until 1st October 2025. All feedback will be treated confidentially and used by the Council to evaluate the proposals.
