Our democratic structure

Here you can find out how the council is organised.

The council is made up of locally elected councillors who make decisions on how to improve Knowsley services on behalf of Knowsley people. The way in which councillors make decisions can be sometimes informed by the ideas of the political parties they belong to. The Lord Mayor is chosen by the council and is the borough's first citizen and representative. The Leader of Knowsley Council is elected by the council and leads the council's cabinet.

This is the structure of Knowsley Council, where you will find structures for:

  • Full Council
  • Cabinet
  • Overview and Scrutiny Committees
  • Regulatory and other committees
  • Other partnerships - such as the Health and Wellbeing Board, Knowsley Better Together Board, Knowsley Children and Families Board and the Knowsley Schools Forum
  • Joint Committees
  • Liverpool City Region bodies
