In November 2017, the Council welcomed a small team for 4 days (put together by the Local Government Association) to give an independent view on the significant achievements delivered over the last three years and to advise on how well prepared for the future we are, based on our priorities to deal with the challenges we face.

In November 2017, the Council welcomed a small team for 4 days (put together by the Local Government Association) to give an independent view on the significant achievements delivered over the last three years and to advise on how well prepared for the future we are, based on our priorities to deal with the challenges we face.

The final report can be read here and is very positive, which is a great testament to all our staff who have (and continue to) work so hard in such challenging times.

Highlights from the report include:

  • Excellent leadership at the council, concluding that Knowsley is well placed to tackle the significant challenges over the coming years
  • Significant improvements in Children’s Social Care and Adult Safeguarding
  • The council is well respected across the Liverpool City Region
  • The council is managing the Government funding cuts well
  • The council has ambitious future plans for the borough

As is to be expected, the Peer Challenge team identified some areas for the Council to consider in the next phase of delivering the priorities.  Encouragingly, the majority of these are already under way.  An action plan has been developed and will be delivered over the coming months.
