Excluding pupils from school
A pupil may be excluded from school if their behaviour is unacceptable and they need some time out of school. This can happen immediately, and the headteacher will decide whether the exclusion is for a fixed period of time or permanent.
There is a process that the school must follow when excluding a pupil, and as a parent or carer, you also have a number of legal responsibilities.
Why might a pupil be excluded?
There are a number of reasons why a pupil might be excluded from school, including
- Serious or persistent disruptive behaviour
- Physical violence or bullying
- Damage to school property
- Drugs or alcohol
- Bringing dangerous weapons to school
