Renew a vehicle Private Hire
If there are no test slots available before your existing vehicle licence expires, please book the earliest compliance test slot available and pay the test fee. This will give you a licence record reference. You are advised to book your compliance test 90 days (3 months) in advance of your existing plate expiry. When making the booking you must enter your expiry date in order to see the bookings within the allowed 28-day window of your expiry.
Licensing will then monitor your compliance booking against your existing licence expiry date and may be able to offer an earlier compliance test date. Only if no earlier compliance test is available before the existing licence expires, will the Licensing Team telephone you and offer you the chance to cancel the compliance test (with fee refund) and for you to go to any standard MOT Station based in Knowsley’s area and pay for and obtain a standard MOT pass certificate.
When you go to your KMBC-area-based MOT Station take the confirmation email the Licensing Team will send you with you so the Testing Station is clear that only a standard MOT test is to be undertaken at your expense. The pass certificate must then be uploaded with the other required documents via the Council portal quoting your test reference in the format 25/*****/PV***
This temporary option of a standard MOT is only available to renewal vehicle owners who have first been contacted by the Licensing Team.
New vehicle applications and vehicle change applications may still only be licensed after the usual successful Council Compliance test.
