Who will own my data once I submit it?

Why do you need my information?
The main purposes for collecting your personal information are as follows:
- To provide waste management services.
- To comply with the statutory duties imposed on us regarding the collection and disposal of household waste.
- To arrange waste and recycling collections that fall outside of our scheduled collections at your address.
- To contact you if we encounter and issues carrying out waste and recycling collections.
- To monitor, assess, and improve the service that we offer to Knowsley residents.
- To respond to customer queries and complaints.
What Personal Information do we collect?
For Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council’s Waste and Recycling Service to offer support within Knowsley we may collect all, or some, of the following information from you:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Home Address
- Phone Number
- Email Address
- Financial information for paid services (e.g. bulky waste collections, garden waste collections etc.).
In addition to the above we may also collect information about the number of people in your household (e.g., in order for you to receive an additional bin etc.).
Special category personal information, such as health data, may be required for additional collections or to receive an additional bin on medical grounds.
What allows you to use my information?
In line with Article 6 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) we rely on the following lawful bases to process your personal data:
- It is necessary for the performance of a contract (e.g., bulky waste collections for which we may charge a fee depending on the number of items collected etc.).
- It is necessary to fulfil a legal obligation.
- It is necessary for the performance of a public task.
In line with Article 9 of the UK GDPR we will rely on the following lawful basis to process any special category personal data that relates to you:
- It is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest.
The relevant processing condition under the Data Protection Act 2018 is as follows:
- Schedule 1, Paragraph 6, statutory and government purposes.
These lawful bases and processing conditions are underpinned by the following legislation, which places duties on local authorities regarding the provision of waste services:
- The Environmental Protection Act 1990 (specifically Section 45).
Who will my information be shared with?
Whilst we may share aggregate data with third parties, such as social landlords, this data will not contain any identifiable personal data. We will not share any identifiable personal data with third-party organisations.
Do I have to provide this information and what will happen if I don’t?
You do not have to provide this information to us. If you do not provide this information, we will not be able to arrange waste and recycling collections (outside of normal scheduled waste and recycling collections at your address.
How long will you keep this data for and why?
We will only keep your personal data for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this privacy notice.
We will continue to retain necessary data in accordance with our corporate Records Management Policy and Retention Schedule to fulfil legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.
How will my information be stored?
Your information will be stored securely on our Customer Relationship Management database (known as ICR), and within secure Council systems.
Will this information be used to take automated decisions about me?

Will my data be transferred abroad and why?

What rights do I have when it comes to my data?
Under the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018/ UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have the following rights with regards to your personal data: -
- The right to subject access – you have the right to see a copy of the personal data that the council holds about you and find out what it is used for.
- The right to rectification – you have the right to ask the council to correct or remove any inaccurate data that we hold about you.
- The right to erasure (right to be forgotten) you have the right to ask the council to remove data that we hold about you.
- The right to restriction – you have the right to ask for your information to be restricted (locked down) on council systems.
- The right to data portability – you have the right to ask for your data to be transferred back to you or to a new provider at your request.
- The right to object – you have the right to ask the council to stop using your personal data or to stop sending you marketing information, or complain about how your data is used.
- The right to prevent automated decision making – you have the right to ask the council to stop using your data to make automated decisions about you or to stop profiling your behaviour (where applicable).
