The primary objective of the proposed 20mph zone is to significantly enhance road safety for all users. Leathers Lane is used not only by motorists but also by pedestrians, cyclists and vulnerable road users such as children, elderly residents and individuals with mobility challenges. Lower vehicle speeds have been widely recognised as a key factor in reducing both the likelihood and severity of road traffic collisions.
Introducing a 20mph speed limit can help to:

- Improve visibility and reaction times for drivers.
- Create a safer and more pleasant environment for pedestrians and cyclists.
