Household Waste Recycling Centres in Knowsley have now reopened, with strict social distancing measures in place.
The restrictions will be:
- The number of vehicles allowed on site will be restricted, and queuing times will be significantly higher.
- Cars only
- One person per vehicle (NB. Blue Badge holders will be able to be accompanied by one family member)
- No vans, commercial-type vehicles or large trailers.
- Social distancing of at least 2 metres will be strictly enforced.
- Site employees will not be able to assist with unloading.
- Sites will be open 8am – 8pm every day.

From Monday, 13 July, a limited number of vans carrying household waste will be able to visit the Household Recycling and Waste Centres (tips) at Huyton and Kirkby. Visit slots will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and must be pre-booked by visiting: www.merseysidewda.gov.uk or calling 07774 787370 or 07774 787340
There are two tips in Knowsley where you can dispose of a wide range of items. By taking your waste and unwanted goods to these tips, we can dispose of them appropriately and recycle wherever possible.
Your local tips are:
- Huyton Waste Recycling Centre, Wilson Road, Huyton, L36 6AD
- Kirkby Waste Reception Centre, Depot Road, Kirkby, L33 7UZ
Both tips are open from 8am to 5pm between 1 October and 31 March and from 8am to 8pm between 1 April and 30 September. More information.
You can dispose of the following items free of charge:
- Car batteries, engine oil, household batteries and electrical items
- Energy saving lightbulbs and fluorescent tubes
- Garden waste, rubble and soils and plasterboard
- Fridges and freezers (Huyton only)
- Books, CDs/DVDs and furniture
- Scrap metal, timber, glass, tools and tyres
- Asbestos is only accepted at the Huyton site and by appointment only

Recycling points
There are a number of recycling points in Knowsley where you can recycle a range of household items. Community recycling points – or bring banks – enable you to recycle a wide range of materials.
