Report a missed collection

We are seeing a rise in missed bin collections in the borough because of significant staff shortages related to COVID-19.

If you have not had a bin collection on your usual date, please leave your bin out and our crews will return to them as soon as possible. However, it is likely to take longer than the usual 48 hours to send a team back. We are also working on Saturdays in a bid to clear the backlog.

The council hopes to be able to return to a more normal collection service very soon.

You can report a missed bin collection to us if your rubbish, recycling or garden waste wasn't collected on your collection day.

You must report it after 3pm on the collection day - within 48 hours of your scheduled collection day. Anything reported to us after 48 hours will not be collected.

This page has information you need to read before you report a missed bin collection to us.

Find out your bin collection day

You can find out online when your Knowsley bin will be collected.

When you should not report a missed bin

Please do not report a missed bin if:

  • It was not put out in the right place for collection by 7am on your scheduled collection day.
  • It was too heavy.
  • The lid was open because it was too full.
  • It contained the wrong items of waste.

Where is my bin collected?

Your bin is collected from the kerbside at the front of your property. It must be clearly visible to the bin collection teams.

What can I do if my bin is too heavy or contains the wrong items?

Your bin must not be over-filled with either too many items, too heavy items or the wrong items.

Please remove the heavy items or wrong items from your bin and put your bin out before 7am on your next scheduled collection day. If this isn't done, we won't be able to collect it.

Remember, you can also take the waste yourself to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre in Knowsley.

Find out what items should not be in your bin

We encourage everyone to cut down on rubbish in the first place - it helps save money and protects the Knowsley environment. Most waste can now be recycled so please make sure you know what can be recycled in Knowsley.
