Prescot High Street Heritage Action Zone and Prescot Townscape Heritage Initiative projects have previously provided grants for restoring historic buildings and spaces in Prescot town centre. These schemes have demonstrated the positive impact that grant schemes can have on the preservation and revitalisation of historic commercial areas.
Prescot High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) Grant Scheme
The Prescot High Street Heritage Action Zone restored and revitalized historic buildings and spaces in Prescot town centre. It was one of 67 HSHAZ schemes in the country and one of only 14 in the North West. The project ran until the end of March 2024 and focussed on the Market Place, the historic heart of the town.
The HSHAZ provided grants for a range of projects, including:
- Repairing and restoring historic shopfronts
- Restoring architectural features
- Repairing historic buildings
- Improving open spaces
The project was funded by Historic England, Knowsley Council, and other local partners. In total, approximately £4 million was invested in bringing Prescot's heritage back to life.
Prescot Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) Grant Scheme

It also supported the repair, restoration, and reuse of historic buildings and spaces in Prescot town centre.
