Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG)
If you have a disability and need to make changes to your home to make it easier and safer for you to live there, you may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) from your local council. The DFG can help you pay for a variety of adaptations to your home, such as:
- Widening doorways and installing ramps to make it easier to get around your home.
- Installing stairlifts or a downstairs bathroom to improve access to different areas of your home.
- Providing a heating system that is suitable for your needs.
- Adapting heating or lighting controls to make them easier to use.
To be eligible for a DFG, you must:
- Be disabled and have a need for adaptations to your home.
- Be living in the property that you are applying for the grant for.
If you are eligible for a DFG, the council will assess your needs and determine the amount of grant you will receive. You will not have to repay the grant.
