Please note that clinical waste bags and sharps bins are not collected with regular household waste. They require a separate collection with its own schedule.
Clinical waste is the collection of any items of waste that may cause infection to any person coming into contact with it. This type of waste requires a specialist collection and must be disposed of in the correct container.
Type of clinical waste | Container |
---|---|
Human tissue | Yellow and black bags |
Blood, bodily fluids, infectious waste | Yellow and black bags |
Swabs or dressings | Yellow bags |
Syringes, needles or other sharp instruments | Yellow box |
Excretions | Double bag and placed in maroon general waste bin. |
Drugs or other pharmaceutical products | These are not collected please speak to your GP or local pharmacist. |
Containers and bags will be delivered once the request from your medical professional has been processed.
We will not collect items in other containers. Boxes with any other colour lid should be returned to the original provider such as medical centre or hospital.
Clinical collection days
Each individual who requires a clinical collection will be sent a collection calendar by post or email which sets out the day and frequency of the collection.
Clinical collections will take place over four days, from Tuesday to Friday. You will be informed of your specific collection day. Please check your calendar for the exact dates.
Duplicate calendars can be requested, please contact customer service.
On your collection day
Bags must be tied and double knotted, and boxes sealed closed.
They must be left on your doorstep or in sight of the road from 7am until 3pm on the collection day.
Report a missed clinical collection
Before reporting a missed collection, we ask that you check your calendar to confirm the collection date.
If you still need to report a missed collection, please contact customer service.
Once reported the missed clinical waste collection should be re-collected within 5 days unless they are due in the area earlier or are urgently required.
