How to set up a direct debit
To set up a Direct Debit, you must have a business rates account reference.
If you haven't registered for business rates yet, please register here.
Setting up a Direct Debit allows you to;
- Choose a payment date that suits you - 1st, 5th, 15th or 24th of the month
- Spread your payments over 12 months (April to March) instead of the usual 10 -the number of instalments allowed will depend on the date you request the change
- Pay automatically - so you're less likely to get reminders, final notices or summonses
- Keep your payments up to date - if your bill changes, the monthly payment will adjust automatically

Make a payment for your business rates

Payment made during normal working hours will be credited the following day. Payments made overnight will be credited to your account within two working days.
Security Information
All online card payments are protected by Transport Layer Security (TLS), as recommended by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council and are directly processed using the Pay360 by Capita service.
Capita's online payment management solutions are independently and rigorously security assessed, and are certified by Visa and MasterCard as a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Level 1 payment processor.
Other ways to pay
If you don’t pay your business rates by direct debit your bill will show the method of payment as cash. You can also pay by debit/credit card/cheque using one of the methods below.
- Call our 24-hour payment line on 0151 489 6000 and select option 2
- By cheque and postal order to: The Director of Finance, Business Rates Office, Knowsley MBC, Municipal Buildings, Archway Road, Huyton, L36 9YU. Cross cheques and postal orders and make them payable to ‘Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley’. Please quote your business rates account number on the back of your cheque or postal order.
- Single or regular payment from your bank account. When using this method please make sure the payment is made at least 7 days prior to the instalment due date.

Instalments and payments
The amount you need to pay is shown on your Business Rates.
Everyone has the right to pay Business Rates in monthly instalments. Normally, this is over 10 instalments, but you can choose to pay over 12 monthly instalments, with the last payment due in March. Link - Set up or amend a direct debit *.
The easiest way to pay is Direct Debit, if you don’t pay by Direct Debit, please contact us to arrange your payments.
If you believe your business rates bill is wrong, please contact us. Common reasons include:
- The name of my business is not correctly written on the bill
- Your business name is incorrect
- The address is incorrect
- The billing dates are wrong
