Youth Offending Team

Children and young people can become involved in offending for many reason – this could include poor mental health, learning and behavioural difficulties, family background, substance misuse and educational disadvantage.

The Youth Offending Service aims to address the causes swiftly to help young people move away from offending and contribute positively to their communities.

The service works in partnership with the Police, the National Probation Service and Health services to reduce the number of children and young people entering custody and/or re-offending.

To support this work the Council has allocated £650,000 for targeted and specialist youth work attached to the Youth Offending Team. This has created a Prevention team who work with young people to prevent them committing an offence and help to improve the life chances of young people at risk of engaging in criminality.
