Advice and support services to help you look after your mental health including if you or someone you know need urgent mental health support.

Adults

If you or someone you know are in a mental health crisis and no longer feel able to cope or be in control of your situation and need urgent help, you can call the NHS Mental Health crisis line.  NHS staff will then support you to get the help you need. Available 24/7, for people of all ages - Call freephone 0800 051 1508.

We know that sometimes life can be tough. Money worries, relationship problems, stresses with school life, but you’re not on your own and there’s lots of help and support available to you.  Whether it’s to a friend, family member, a teacher, your GP or one of the many support agencies, it’s good to talk.

If you need help or if you are worried about someone else, you can speak to your GP or seek immediate help from the below helplines and services.

Shout 

Shout offers confidential 24/7 text messaging support for times when you need immediate support. 

The service is staffed by trained volunteers who will work with you to take your next steps towards feeling better. 

They can help with issues such as stress, anxiety and depression and can talk via text at any time of day or night.

Samaritans

A safe place to talk 24 hours a day about whatever is troubling you.

Talking Therapies

Free NHS therapy for people with common mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression, to help you change the way you feel by changing the way you think.  

Online therapy is available 24/7, with weekly online support from your therapist.  

A six-week course is also available to help you to develop skills to manage your mood.

Listening Ear provides counselling support for people of all ages.

This app is a pocket-sized suicide prevention resource which provides accessible support, including a safety plan and LifeBox, where people can upload images or videos that remind them of their reasons to stay alive.

The app is designed to help both those who are having suicidal thoughts and those who are concerned about someone else and is available for free on both iOS and Android devices.
