Appealing for a school place

Find out more about appealing a school place refusal in Knowsley, including the grounds for appeal and the process involved.

The appeal process

To appeal a school place refusal, you will need to contact the school admission authority and request an appeal form. You will then have 20 school days to submit your appeal in writing.

Your appeal should include the following information:

  • Your child's name and date of birth.
  • The name of the school you are appealing to.
  • The reasons why you are appealing the decision.
  • Any supporting documentation, such as letters from your doctor or evidence of your child's siblings attending the school.

Once you have submitted your appeal, the school admission authority will arrange for an appeal hearing to take place. You will be invited to attend the hearing and to present your case. The school will also be invited to present their case. Applicants can submit an appeal for more than one school they have been refused a place at if they wish.

The appeal panel will consider your appeal and the school's case. They will then decide whether to uphold the refusal or to offer your child a place.
