Knowsley School Admissions 2024/25
Primary School
Knowsley residents can apply for reception class places for the 2023/24 school year starting Tuesday, 12 September 2023. The national closing date for applications is 15 January 2024.
If your child's date of birth falls on or between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020, you should apply for a reception class place.
Secondary School
If your child is currently in Year 6 at primary school, you can apply for a secondary school place for the 2023/24 school year starting Tuesday, 12 September 2023. The national closing date for applications is 31 October 2023.
If your child's date of birth falls on or between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013, you should apply for a Year 7 place.
Oversubscribed Schools
Many Knowsley schools are regularly oversubscribed and will have to refuse some applicants. Knowsley residents are strongly advised to use all preferences, and to name local schools and those for which your child has a high priority for securing a place within those preferences.
If you cannot be offered a place at a school of your preference, the local authority will offer an alternative. This could be in a school outside of the immediate locality in which you live.
Admission Policies
If a school receives more applications than the number of places available, the admission authority will use oversubscription criteria to decide who gets a place. The oversubscription criteria for each school are different, so it's important to check the admission arrangements for the schools you're interested in.

Junior School transfer
If you have a child in Year 2 at St Margaret Mary's Catholic Infant School, you will be sent information about applying for a place in Year 3 at St Margaret Mary's Catholic Junior School during the Autumn first half term.
If your child attends another infant or primary school, you can still apply for a place in Year 3 at St Margaret Mary's Catholic Junior School. To do this, please get in touch with the School Admissions Team to request an application form.
The closing date for applications for Year 3 is 15 January 2024.
