Knowsley Council's responsibility

We are responsible for making sure that all registered pupils of compulsory school age attend their school regularly. We do this by employing school attendance service staff to monitor school attendance and to help parents meet their responsibilities.

School attendance staff work closely with schools to identify and address the reasons why children may be missing school. If your child is not attending school regularly, a school attendance officer may visit you to discuss the situation and offer support.

Fines

It is important that you cooperate with the local authority to help your child overcome their attendance problems and receive the best from their education. If you do not do everything you can to cooperate with the school and the school attendance service, we may have no choice but to consider legal action. This could result in a penalty notice of up to £120, a fine of up to £2,500 for each child who is not going to school, and/or a prison sentence of up to three months.
