The Sustainable Warmth Fund (SWF) is a scheme that has been developed to help households make their homes more energy efficient.

For households to be eligible for the scheme they must have a low energy performance. Homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of either D, E, F, or G and a combined household income of less than £30,000 gross will only be considered for the scheme.

Priority will be given to homes with lower EPC ratings of E, F or G.  There is limited funding available to deliver a range of retrofit measures to eligible owner-occupied and privately rented homes.
Improvements through the scheme may include:
• Wall insulation
• Under floor insulation
• Loft insulation
• Low-carbon heating such as air source heat pumps
• Solar Panels
• Low-energy lighting
• Heating control upgrades.
• Windows and doors

To be eligible for a grant from the fund you must meet the following criteria:

  • The gross household income must be below £30,000 per year or below the Minimum Income Standard.
  • The property must have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of either D, E, F or G (priority will be given to E, F and G rated homes)

It is envisaged that for eligible owner-occupied properties the improvements may be fully funded. For private rented properties the landlord will need to make a contribution of at least one third of the total cost. For private rented properties there is a maximum grant cap of £5,000 on properties which are gas heated. If the property is non-gas heated a maximum grant will also apply. Private tenants should discuss this opportunity with their landlord.

If you think you may be eligible for the Sustainable Warmth Fund scheme please complete the online application form to register your interest.

If you are eligible Knowsley Council or the appointed scheme contractor will be in touch with you to complete an application form and also collect evidence of your eligibility. Following an approved application, you will then be provided with expert advice and an in-depth survey to assess which works are most suitable for your type of home. Funding is very limited and will be allocated at the discretion of Knowsley MBC and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
