Secondary School transfer (year 7 admission)

The national application deadline for 2024 secondary school transfer (year 7 places) has now passed and secondary school allocation results will be released on 1 March 2024.

Knowsley residents who applied on-line via the application portal will receive an email or can login to the parent portal on 1 March to receive their allocation result.

Parents/carers who wish to submit a late application or make a revised application should visit the late application and making a change page of this website for further advice.

Detailed information regarding the secondary admissions allocation process can be found in the ‘Secondary Education Admissions’ information booklet which is available to download below.

Primary School Admission (Reception classes)

The application period for 2024 entry to reception class of primary school is open for Knowsley residents.

If your child’s date of birth falls on or between 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2020 you can apply for a reception class place.

The national closing date for applications is 15 January 2024.

The Knowsley application is for use by Knowsley residents only, if you live in another authority you must apply on your home authority’s application, but you can name primary schools in Knowsley as preferences if you wish.

The Local Authority produce a composite prospectus (Information for Parents) which provides detailed information to guide parents/carers through the admissions process. Before applying for your primary (reception class) place for September 2024, please read the relevant Information from the prospectus which is available to download below:

Please be aware that many Knowsley schools are regularly oversubscribed and will have to refuse some applicants. Knowsley residents are strongly advised to use all preferences, and to name local schools and those for which your child has a high priority for securing a place within those preferences. In the event you cannot be offered a place at a school of your preference, the local authority will make an alternative offer, but this could be in a school outside of the immediate locality in which you live if your local schools are already full having been named as a preference by other applicants.

Admission policies for 2024/25

It is important to understand how places in schools will be allocated if a school receives more applications than the number of places available, this will help you to make informed decisions when naming your schools of preference.

The admission authority of each school in Knowsley has agreed it’s admission arrangements and oversubscription criteria for 2024/25 – you can view these on this website by visiting the page determined admission arrangements for Knowsley schools 2024/25.

The online application portal

All applicants are requested to make an application via the online portal – all you will need to do this is an email account.

If you have received a letter from the Local Authority indicating that we have an existing record of your child and expect to receive an application form you, the letter will have an identification number unique to your child. If you enter this number when prompted as you are completing the form, some of your child’s details should appear and then you can add your school preferences. Don’t worry if you haven’t had a letter yet, you can still complete the application by inputting the details yourself.

Once you have completed the application and submitted it, you will receive a confirmation email that it has been submitted to the Local Authority.

Log in to the Parent Portal

You can return to your application at any time up to the relevant closing date to make changes. For more information about making changes, please visit the page making a late application or making a change to your application.

If for any reason you cannot make your application online, please contact the school admissinos team to request a paper application form.

Supplementary Information Forms (SIF)

Some schools have a supplementary information form that applicants need to complete in addition to the Local Authority application if they wish their application to be considered under certain criteria of the admission policy for that school.

Supplementary information forms for Knowsley schools are available directly from the individual schools or can be found on the supplementary information form page.

Open events

Parents/carers are recommended to obtain as much information about the schools they are interested in to help decide on preferences. As well as reading the school admission policy and viewing the school website, you can contact the schools directly by email or telephone to request a copy of the school prospectus or specific information.

For enquiries regarding primary school open events or arranging a visit, please contact the individual primary schools directly.

Attending these events has no effect on how places are offered but will provide an insight as to what the schools can offer.

Junior School transfer

Applications to join year 3 in St Margaret Mary's Catholic Junior School are also coordinated. Information about the application process will be sent directly to parents/carers of all year 2 pupils attending St Margaret Mary's Catholic Infant School during the Autumn first half term.

Parents/carers of children attending other infant/primary schools may also wish to apply and should contact the School Admissions Team to request an application form.
