Those who applied by paper application form will be sent a letter with their result. Letters will be posted by first class post on 1 March.
Parents/carers who wish to submit a late application or make a change to their existing application should visit the late application and making a change page of this website for further advice.
Detailed information regarding the secondary admissions allocation process can be found in the ‘Secondary Education Admissions’ information booklet which is available to download below.
Primary School Admission (Reception classes)
The application period for 2023 entry to reception class of primary school is open for Knowsley residents.
If your child’s date of birth falls on or between 1 September 2018 to 31 August 2019 you can apply for a reception class place.
The national closing date for applications is 15 January 2023
The Knowsley application is for use by Knowsley residents only, if you live in another authority you must apply on your home authority’s application, but you can name primary schools in Knowsley as preferences if you wish.
The Local Authority produce a composite prospectus (Information for Parents) which provides detailed information to guide parents/carers through the admissions process. Before applying for your primary (reception class) place for September 2023, please read the relevant Information for Parents Booklet which is available to download below:
All applicants are requested to make an online application – all you will need to do this is an email account. The online application is quick and easy to use and will guide you through the process.
If you have received a letter from the Local Authority indicating that your child is expected to start reception class in September 2023, the letter will have an identification number unique to your child. If you enter this number when prompted as you are completing the form, your child’s details should appear and then you can add your school preferences. Don’t worry if you haven’t had a letter as you can still complete the application by adding your child’s details manually.
Once you have completed the application and submitted it, you will receive a confirmation email that it has been submitted to the Local Authority.

If for any reason you cannot make your application online, please contact the school admissions team to request a paper application form. Please be aware, if you apply by paper application, you will not be able to access your allocation result online or by email – a letter will be issued by post on national offer day.
Junior School transfer
Transfer to year 3 in St Margaret Mary's Catholic Junior School is also coordinated. Information about the application process will be sent directly to parents/carers of all year 2 pupils attending St Margaret Mary's Catholic Infant School during the Autumn first half term.
Parents/carers of children attending other infant/primary schools may also wish to apply and should contact the School Admissions Team to request an application form.

Supplementary Information Forms (SIF)
Some schools have a supplementary information form that applicants need to complete in addition to the Local Authority application if they wish their application to be considered under certain criteria of the admission policy for that school. Supplementary information forms for Knowsley schools are available directly from the individual schools or can be found on the supplementary information form page
Attendance at open events can be helpful in obtaining information about the schools you are interested in and to help decide on preferences. For enquiries regarding primary school open events, please contact the individual primary schools directly.
Please remember, attending open events has no effect on how places are offered but will provide an insight as to what the schools can offer. Parents/ carers are also advised to read the school admission policy and view the school website and can also contact the schools directly by email or telephone to request a copy of the school prospectus or specific information.
