Stray dogs

Dog wardens collect stray dogs and try to reunite them with their owners as quickly as possible.

If you spot a stray dog in Knowsley, telephone the dog warden on 0151 443 2300 or email [email protected] between 9am and 1.30pm, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Outside of these hours, please contact Animal Wardens on 0151 374 2174 or email [email protected]. Please note that dogs will only be collected if they are contained within Knowsley. Only approach a stray dog if safe to do so

If you are worried about a banned breed, a dog that is out of control, a dangerous or aggressive dog please report to the police on 101 or 999 if there is an imminent risk.

It is a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped and it must wear an ID tag when in a public place, which includes your surname, address and contact number.  This makes it easier to find and return the dog if lost or stolen.

To arrange microchipping or to update the details such as a change of address or contact number, please contact a local vet (some companies may charge an administration fee for this service).

If you have lost your dog, please contact the dog warden during the above hours, or Animal Wardens outside of those hours (you can also try to contact local vets and rescue centres).  Please note Animal Wardens will charge a fee to collect the dog.
