Lifesaving defibrillators installed in all Knowsley Children’s Centres

Defibrillators have been installed into every Children’s Centre in Knowsley to help save lives in the event of an emergency.

The machines are now in all 12 of Knowsley’s Children’s Centres and all staff have been trained in their use in case a centre user ever experiences a cardiac arrest. defibrillators installed in to Knowsley Children’s Centres

The council decided to install the defibrillators into all the centres after working with the Oliver King Foundation, a campaign group set up after the tragic death of Oliver King. Oliver was only 12 when he sadly died due to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). His family believe that a defibrillator could have saved his life, and set up the Oliver King Foundation in his memory to raise awareness of SADS and campaign for defibrillators in public places.

In 2013 Knowsley Council installed defibrillators into every school in the borough, and the provision of the lifesaving equipment into Children’s Centres continues the council's commitment to keeping people safe.

Cllr Gary See, Knowsley's Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Defibrillators are easy to use with the right training and can literally be the difference between life and death in an emergency.

“It is great that we have defibrillators in all our schools and I’m really pleased that the same now goes for our children's centres too.

“Once again it has been great working with the Oliver King Foundation, who have trained all staff at the centres so they feel confident to use the defibrillators should they ever need to.“

Mark King from the Oliver King Foundation, said: “The Oliver King Foundation has had a great partnership working with Knowsley Council. I truly believe working together has made a real difference to the health and wellbeing of Knowsley staff and the children and families attending their sites.”
