Know Your Blood Pressure Day 2015 - Saturday 18 April

Published on: Wednesday, 15-April-2015

Free blood pressure checks are being offered at Cables Retail Park, Prescot on Saturday, 18 April.

Blood pressure is a measure of your blood as it is being pumped around the body. It can be low, normal or high. If the pressure is too high, it makes it more likely that you may suffer health problems such as stroke, a heart attack, or kidney disease.  High blood pressure is common, affecting around 10 million people across the UK.  Several factors can increase your risk of developing a high blood pressure including a lack of exercise, a high amount of salt in your food, smoking and drinking large amounts of alcohol.

High blood pressure frequently has no symptoms so having it measured is the only way to find out.

If you can’t attend the event on 18 April, there are other things you can do:

  • If you live in Knowsley and are aged 40 -75, you can sign up for a free health check and have your blood pressure measured. Telephone your GP surgery to make an appointment or to find your nearest local community venue telephone (freephone) 0800 032 5821.
  • You can also make an appointment with your doctor / practice nurse or some local pharmacies will carry out a blood pressure check.
