Aintree Racecourse was bursting with aspiration, inspiration, enthusiasm and excitement as young people from across the Liverpool City Region attended the two-day Skills Show Experience earlier this week.

More than 4,500 young people from over 50 schools took part in over 120 ‘have a go’ experiences, showcasing the range of job opportunities available across the Liverpool City Region.

Major employers across the City Region attended the event on 17 and 18 June, advising young people on the skills and qualities they are looking for in their future workforce.  These included Jaguar Landrover, Getrag Ford, Abbey Logistics, United Utilities, BT, Airbus, Peel Ports, as well as training and education providers from across the City Region.

The have a go experiences included bricklaying, DJing, lorry driving simulations, tree cutting as well as trying your hand at beauty treatments.

Cllr Phil Davies, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, said “The Skills Show Experience provided a fantastic opportunity for young people across the City Region to see the range of job opportunities available to them, particularly around our growth sectors of visitor economy, low carbon economy, advanced manufacturing, logistics and Superport and the knowledge economy.  We wanted to light the fire of ambition and aspiration in the young people who attended - I know from speaking to young people that they really benefitted from the event, many feeling enthused and inspired to pursue their chosen career path.”

Richard Else, Operations Director, Jaguar Land Rover and Chair of Liverpool City Region Employment and Skills Board, added “This is just one of a number of initiatives we are delivering across the City Region to ensure our young people have the right skills in order for them to take advantage of the fantastic range of job opportunities that will be available.  It’s great that so many young people attended and the positive feedback we have received.”
