Horrid Henry helps Knowsley celebrate World Book Day

Published on: Wednesday, 26-February-2014

Children in Knowsley will be able to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 6 March with a week of Horrid Henry themed activities in all the borough’s libraries.

Quizzes and activity sheets will test youngsters’ knowledge on everything to do with the Horrid Henry series. There are themed-prizes for all the winners. Children will also have the chance to dress up as Horrid Henry.

Pupils are entitled to receive a £1 World Book Day Token from their school. It can be exchanged for one of ten specially published World Book Day books, or used to get £1 off any full price book.

Knowsley Library Service has arranged for Broadhursts booksellers to visit Kirkby Library on Tuesday 11 March so children can spend their tokens.

There will be scheduled school class visits to the library throughout the day and from 3.30pm to 4.30pm children are welcome to come along with their parents to swap their token for a £1 World Book Day title.

Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Community and Culture, said:

“World Book Day is a great opportunity to encourage children to discover the pleasure of books and reading by giving them the chance to buy a book of their own.  Thanks to the Library Service school children in Knowsley will be able to go along to Kirkby Library to exchange their £1 World Book Day token for a brand new book.

“Libraries are a great resource for children both during term time and school holidays. By hosting a week of Horrid Henry events in celebration of World Book Day, it will not only help the children have fun, but will hopefully encourage them to visit the libraries all year round.”
