Celebrating cycling partnership in Knowlsey

Cycling is on the move in Knowsley thanks to the strength of partnership working in the borough.

Knowsley Council has been working in partnership with British Cycling for over three years, which has seen the development of the borough’s cycling strategy as well as a range of cycling programmes and events.  This includes Go-Ride (a schools programme providing young people to progress their bike skills and confidence), the development of both the facility and programmes at Knowsley Velodrome & BMX Park and the Sky Ride programme with guided rides across the borough. For further information on Sky Ride programme, visit www.goskyride.com/knowsley

The council’s emerging cycling strategy encourages residents to take advantage of the fantastic cycling facilities and routes in Knowsley and get on their bike, both for travelling to work and for leisure pursuits. Cycling offers fantastic benefits both in terms of improving health and wellbeing as well as financial benefits.

The borough’s facilities include the outdoor velodrome and BMX track, dedicated cycle paths through the borough’s parks and open spaces as well as a range of cycling programmes to suit all ages and abilities.

In recognition of this partnership and the council’s development, leadership and commitment to cycling in the borough, Peter Haymes from British Cycling presented the Mayor of Knowsley, Cllr Frank Walsh, with a signed Team GB jersey, including Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish.   The jersey was presented at the stage two start of The Tour of Britain – the UK’s biggest bike race - earlier this week at Knowsley Safari.

Mayor of Knowsley, Cllr Frank Walsh, said "I am delighted to receive the signed Team GB jersey in recognition of our strong partnership with British Cycling.  This has enabled us to offer a diverse range of cycling opportunities across the borough and I hope that residents are inspired following the Tour of Britain in the borough to get on their bike and enjoy the fantastic guided rides and scenic cycle routes the borough has to offer.”
