Company overview:

"An exciting new opportunity has arisen in a prestigious Building Services Engineering Design Consultancy in Speke, Liverpool for an Apprentice Building Services Design Engineer. This new position is within the Design Engineers’ team and will be primarily office based at our premises on The Estuary Business Park in Speke close to Liverpool Airport and will also include site visits to the projects that we are working on."

Key responsibilities for the role:

Must be able to complete an apprenticeship framework in Building Services Design Engineer (level 6) Degree Apprenticeship at Liverpool John Moore’s University commencing September 2021 on a five-year part-time basis, in addition to undertaking the following tasks in the workplace:-
Key Tasks:                                                                                       

  • Layout small power and data                                                            
  • Layout fire alarm system                                                                    
  • Calculate heat losses                                                                            
  • Size radiators                                                                                        
  • Develop a heating system design                                                          
  • Calculate heat gains      
  • Calculate ventilation rates          
  • Size grilles         
  • Develop a ventilation system
  • Calculate hot and cold-water demand
  • Develop a domestic water services design
  • Develop soils and waste layouts
  • Produce mechanical schematic


  • Company standards and layouts                                                             
  • Autocad drawing protocols
  • Revit drawing protocols
  • Produce basic layout drawings from sketches

Key skills to be successful in your application:

Minimum entry requirement is 112 UCAS points.  As an example, this could be at least three A levels grades A*- C including Mathematics and Science or their equivalent, or have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Building Services Design Technician.

Location: L24 8RN               
Contracted hours:  35.75 hours per week; Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 5.00pm Friday 9.00am to 4.30pm
Annual salary: £17,635 (based on National Joint Council for Environmental Engineers & Allied Staffs - Student Engineer salary rates)
