Apprentice Nursery Practitioner - Parkland Partnership - REF:K022

Parkland Partnership is a charity established in 2012 to support nursery settings with children who have special and complex needs. It also offers financial support and assistance to children and families. It is looking for young people who have a desire to work with children and are motivated to learn and develop whilst on placement at one of their supported nurseries across Knowsley and Merseyside.

Key responsibilities for the role:

  • Develop and operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children attending the nursery with the Room Leader
  • Prepare the children's records in your group and organise reviews for parents, in conjunction with the Room Leader
  • Maintain Kindersoft (or successor) system with children’s information and urgent records e.g. accident records
  • Maintain Tapestry (or successor) system with children’s learning journey and observations and assessments
  • Work alongside parents of special needs children and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate
  • Anticipate the needs of special needs children and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate and liaise with the settings SENCO
  • Support all staff and engage as a good staff team member
  • To develop your role within the team
  • Liaise with and support parents and other family members
  • Attend staff meetings outside working hours as necessary
  • Undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery, for example, preparation of snack meals, cleaning of room and of equipment.

Key skills to be successful in your application:

  • Self motivated and confident 
  • You will need to be flexible in regard to hours of work and be willing to attend training and meetings out of work hours
  • Essential: NVQ Level 2 in Childcare or acceptable equivalent
  • Ability to drive would be beneficial to get to sites as needed

Contracted hours: 30-40
Hourly rate of pay: National Minimum Wage

Top tips for filling in the application form:

  • Research the employer offering the job. Find out what they do and what the job involves.

  • Make sure you take your time. Don’t rush as you may make mistakes!
  • Prepare a draft of the application form before transferring the information to the actual form. If you’re filling it in by hand, make sure you don’t make mistakes on the original form for the employer.
  • Make sure any writing is neat and easy to read, and check your spelling.
  • Answer all questions and fill in all the boxes/spaces.
  • If there are gaps in your employment history, say what you were doing during that time. If you've have never had a job, you could include examples such as voluntary work, or involvement with outside clubs or organisations.
  • Make sure you sell your skills; this could also include things you have developed outside work such as interests and hobbies. This is an opportunity for you to promote yourself to the employer and is your opportunity to explain to the employer why they should employ you!
