Apprentice Engineer - Bryken - REF: 010

Company overview:

"Bryken is a machined parts company which constantly changes and adapts to the requirements of our customers. Our machine shop consists of over forty six new CNC machine tools manufacturing parts for a wide variety of customers. The company has grown since inception in 1982 by it's current owner, to a major supplier to many different companies and industries. Profits are reinvested in new machinery and facilities. With a workforce of around one hundred the company had a turnover of £12.0M for 2015."

Key responsibilities for the role:

  • You will be trained to read and interpret prints, routings, layouts, and related documents to produce component parts that meet design specifications in order to satisfy company quality standards
  • First academic year will be spent full time at college with block realse to Bryken
  • You will be trained to set-up and operate all jobs routed to the assigned machines with no assistance and meet the production standard required for the given department.
  • You will be trained to perform various machine functions such as turning, milling, drilling, reaming, threading
  • Check work within close tolerances and inspect component parts to print using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, plug gauges, comparator, etc. throughout the process

Key skills to be successful in your application:

  • GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above
  • Excellent attention to detail also good dexterity
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

MUST HAVE GCSE GRADE 4/C IN MATHS AND ENGLISH OR ABOVE

Location: Knowsley                                                                 
Contracted Hours: To be confirmed at interview stage                               
Hourly rate of pay: National Minimum Wage

Top tips for filling in the application form:

  • Make sure you take your time. Don’t rush as you may make mistakes!
  • Prepare a draft of the application form before transferring the information to the actual form. If you’re filling it in by hand, make sure you don’t make mistakes on the original form for the employer.
  • Make sure any writing is neat and easy to read, and check your spelling.
  • Answer all questions and fill in all the boxes/spaces.
  • If there are gaps in your employment history, say what you were doing during that time. If you've have never had a job, you could include examples such as voluntary work, or involvement with outside clubs or organisations.
  • Make sure you sell your skills; this could also include things you have developed outside work such as interests and hobbies. This is an opportunity for you to promote yourself to the employer and is your opportunity to explain to the employer why they should employ you!
  • Before you send off your application form, take a copy of your form, so you have this to look over if you get an interview.
