We may investigate concerns about food businesses that are in Knowsley. We may also investigate complaints about foodstuffs that have been purchased from businesses in Knowsley.
What we investigate
We will only investigate complaints relating to food safety. We cannot investigate complaints about poor quality food or poor service standards.
Examples of the type of complaints that we would investigate include:
-
Sightings of pests in food premises.
-
Unhygienic handling practices.
-
Food that has not been thoroughly cooked and poses a food safety risk.
-
Foreign objects in foodstuffs that have the potential to cause illness or injury.
We cannot request compensation on behalf of consumers.
You should retain as much evidence as possible, including the food, any receipts and packaging. We may ask you to provide a witness statement and attend court if necessary.
If you have an illness and believe it to be linked to a food business, you should contact your GP and arrange to submit a stool sample.
There are many illnesses that can cause vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms, many of which can be caused by things other than eating food. Some forms of illness can take several days to cause illness after the initial infection and, therefore, it is not possible to attribute a particular food business without a confirmed diagnosis. If you submit a stool sample through your GP and an illness of concern is identified, we will be notified of your illness by the UK Health Security Agency and may contact you to contact a detailed heath questionnaire. You may notify us of your concerns that a food business caused your illness, but we may choose not to investigate your concerns unless you have provided a stool sample and have a confirmed diagnosis.
If you wish to make a complaint, please contact the Environmental Health Service by emailing [email protected]
