Mayoral elections
Each year, the Members of the Council
elect one of their Members to the
office of Mayor. The Mayor is
inaugurated at the Council's annual
meeting, usually held in May when the
Chains of Office are handed over by
the
outgoing Mayor.
The Mayor is acknowledged as the 'first citizen' of the Borough, second only in status to Royalty and the Queen's Deputy, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside.
The Mayor of Knowsley for 2008/2009 is Councillor Michael Foulkes.
