Privacy and data protection
This page describes how you can access
information that the Council holds
about you in line with the Data
Protection Act 1998.
Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council has a duty to protect the personal data it processes in line with the Data Protection Act.
The Act allows an individual the right to request information held about them. If an individual requests information about someone other than themselves, the request will be rejected except where:

The Act allows an individual the right to request information held about them. If an individual requests information about someone other than themselves, the request will be rejected except where:
- Parents may request information about a child under 16;
- A Solicitor may request information on behalf of individual with that individual’s approval.
What will you receive?
- A copy of the information held about you
- A description of the information processed
- The purposes for which the information is being processed
- A list of recipients of whom the information are/may be disclosed
- An explanation of any codes used
You have the right to:
- Ask the Council not to use personal information about you for direct marketing
- Ask the Council to stop processing personal data which is likely to cause damage or distress
What is the process?
- A request must be made in writing to the address below (email is acceptable). You will be sent a subject access request form to complete (this is also available to download below). The request must identify which services you’re interested in or have had dealings with
- Your information will be provided to you within 40 days as stated in the Data Protection Act.
- You will need to enclose a fee of £10 with your request form (details on form)
What if I am dissatisfied with how my request has been dealt with or if the information held about me is incorrect?
- You should write to the Data protection Officer (details below) telling him what is incorrect and ask for it to be corrected.
