Knowsley have been awarded Beacon status in eight areas over the last 5 years in the following:

Road Safety 2006-2007

Awarded for the quality and delivery of Knowsley's Road Safety programme. It includes the introduction of Extra Sensory Perception equipment to detect children hidden from ice-cream vans, area wide traffic calming schemes to reduce vehicle speeds on housing estates and roadside radar sessions for children aged 9 to 11. Knowsley has achieved outstanding success in reducing road casualties.

Integrated Children's Services 2005-2006

Integrated children's services is helping to improve the life chances of children and young people in Knowsley.

Social Inclusion through ICT 2003-2004

The Social Inclusion through ICT award was given to Knowsley for working to support a true information society, as a means of enhancing the opportunities for greater community involvement and social inclusion.

Removing Barriers to Work 2003-2004

This award was for a comprehensive approach to tackling barriers to work through effective partnership working. Key barriers to employment and the needs of employers were identified and innovative approaches to partnership working and programme delivery have been developed to address the issues.

Transforming Secondary Education 2003-2004

This award was for the development of transformational strategy designed to raise attainment in schoolds. This approach focused on transforming teaching and learning, improving secondary transfer, the promotion of a vocational curriculum, effective preparation for exams and the development of a comprehensive inclusion strategy.

Accessible Services 2001-2002

The Accessible Services Beacon award was for our One Stop Shops, Contact Centre, and our pioneering work in the information technology field, where the borough already enjoys an international reputation.

Regenerating through Culture, Sport and Tourism 2001-2003

This was for a determined approach to provide further opportunities for residents to become involved in meaningful and enjoyable leisure activities, contributing towards a vibrant and confident community.

Fostering Business Growth 2002-2003

This was for our success in recent years in re-developing derelict land, encouraging inward investment and creating new jobs. We enjoy a positive relationship with businesses in the area and we are working in partnership to improve the ability of our residents to capture the jobs created.
