Homophobic crime is a hate crime.

Crimes which are mainly or partly motivated by animosity towards lesbians, gay men or bisexuals, and may include:

  • Verbal abuse and name calling.
  • Having your property defaced with anti- lesbian or anti-gay slogans.
  • Being robbed in the street or burgled at home.
  • Being attacked outside gay bars or other venues.
  • Rape or sexual assault.

Merseyside Police work with the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) communities in order to make sure their concerns about homophobic crime are met.

For further information on the Merseyside Police LGB policy and how to report a homophobic crime, visit the Merseyside Police website.
