Take action on climate change in Knowsley

Have your say!

Knowsley Council is working with other organisations in the Borough to tackle climate change. We are developing a plan of action to reduce carbon emissions from homes, organisations and businesses, and to protect Knowsley from future climate change.

The plan will also look at how we can take advantage of the opportunities of tackling climate change, such as boosting the local economy, creating jobs, providing a secure energy supply, saving money on fuel bills and improving the quality of life of everyone who lives and works in Knowsley.

We are keen to find out the views of our businesses on one of the most important issues affecting our future. Please take a few minutes to answer the following seven questions and contribute to Knowsley’s plans for acting on climate change.

Question 1: The causes of climate change

Climate change is widely believed to be caused by our use of fossil fuels, eg. gas, electricity and petrol/diesel. Greenhouse gases are also emitted when waste is sent to landfill sites.

Do you agree that our use of fossil fuels contributes to the causes of climate change and that everyone needs to take action now?

The highest proportion of carbon emissions in Knowsley are from businesses and it is essential that we develop further ways of supporting businesses to take action. Current proposals being developed/considered include:

  • Developing the activity of the Knowsley Business Environment Club and encouraging further uptake of the support services available
  • Assess the findings of the Knowsley Trade Waste Study to develop further actions to reduce the production of trade waste in Knowsley
  • Development of a Renewable Energy Action Plan for Knowsley
  • Participation in the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme for qualifying businesses and organisations
  • Work with business support officers/enforcement officers to ensure that they are able to signpost businesses to relevant agencies that can provide support on reducing carbon emissions
  • Consider developing proposals to apply for funding for a ‘smart grid’ pilot with network operators
