Personal

Roby-born Chris has lived in Huyton all her life and attended St
Aidan’s Primary School, St Augustine’s Secondary School and Prescot
College of Further Education.
She began her career as a counter clerk at Frencham Way Post
Office, before taking on a number of roles in the business sector,
including Customer Services Manager for Electrolux. She also spent
a year working in Bahrain in the Persian Gulf.
Chris has been married to Brian, a fellow Knowsley councillor,
for 34 years. They have three children – Anthony, Adrian and Bryen
– and three grandchildren.
Public life
Chris was first elected to Knowsley Council in 1996 and has held
a wide range of positions, including Chair of Area A, Social
Services Committee, Chair of Scrutiny, Vice-Chair of Highways,
Vice-Chair of the Area Partnership Board and was a longstanding
member of the appointments and appeals committee.
In addition to her commitments with Knowsley Council, Chris also
holds a number of roles in the voluntary and public sector.
She is a non-Executive Director of NHS Knowsley and is currently
the Children’s Champion. In her 13 years with the PCT, she has also
been Vice-Chair, Mental Health Champion, conciliator and Chair of
the Provider Board.
Chris is heavily committed to working in the local voluntary
sector and is currently the Chair of Knowsley Citizen’s Advice,
Chair and Trustee of Homestart Knowsley and the Chair of Knowsley
Community and Voluntary Service.
Chris has also recently been presented with a long service award
for her work as a governor at Blacklow School in Huyton. In this
role, she is the Chair of Finance and Personnel she has also
recently received recognition for her ten years as a Trustee to
Homestart.
Interests
Chris is a keen reader of personal development literature and
has an interest in mind, body and spirit. She holds a Reiki level
two certificate and is currently studying to become a counsellor
(of the other variety). Chris and Brian recently rescued a young
Husky dog Kadie, who is keeping them very busy.
Consort
Chris’s husband Brian is her Consort in 2011/12.
Born in Huyton, Brian was a councillor in Knowsley for 27 years
and returned in May 2010 after a two year break.
A former pupil of Sylvester Primary School and Hey Secondary
School, Brian has been a school governor for more than 30
years.
Away from his council commitments, Brian has a variety of
interests which include football, cooking and gardening.
Mayor’s Charity
The Mayor’s Magic Fund supporting young people in Knowsley.
This is a new fund which has been named and set up by the young
people in the borough.
The aim is to enhance the life chances of young people. An
accountable body has been set up who will administer the fund and
the hope is for the fund to become established and continue long
into the future.
Guidance for Mayoral Events
The Worshipful the Mayor shall have precedence
within the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley subject only to the
presence of Her Majesty the Queen or a representative of Her
Majesty.
- The responsible person at any event should meet the Mayor at
the entrance on arrival and should introduce her to the host or to
the assembled company.
- When the Mayor is formally announced, those present should rise
and this should be repeated when she leaves.
- Unless the Mayor occupies the Chair, she should be seated on
the immediate right of the person presiding.
- Except for an introduction, unless otherwise agreed, it is
usual practice that the Mayor should be first speaker.
- The correct form of address for the Mayor is “Madam
Mayor”.
