Traffic management

Knowsley Council's Traffic Management Team formulates traffic engineering solutions required to meet the needs of Knowsley’s residents, businesses and visitors. Specific measures include the promotion of highway improvement schemes, traffic regulation orders, road signs and carriageway markings.

These include the following:

  • Improved junction layouts
  • Waiting restrictions to resolve parking problems
  • Disabled persons parking bays
  • Driveway protection markings (‘H’ bars)
  • Direction signs
  • One-way orders
This allows pedestrian and vehicular traffic to gain access to the Borough's higways safely, effectively and in a manner which can be sustained, thereby contributing to our Transport Strategies and requirements of the Traffic Management Act 2004.

In addition, the team provides detailed advice/highway requirements on planning applications within the Borough.

Latest Traffic Regulation Orders

Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) are legal documents allowing the Police to enforce various regulations. The traffic management team, usually as a result of input from local communities and the police, develops TROs, to regulate traffic movement and/or quality of life issues.

When a TRO is proposed we advertise it formally in the local press and place a notice on the relevant street(s).

There are no current Traffic Regulation Orders.

In addition to the above orders, the police are also responsible for other restrictions such as approving or rejecting requests for public demonstrations and parades.
