The Traffic Management Division
implement weight limits when it is
necessary, e.g. when the condition of
a bridge or road is inadequate to take
the weight of lorries and their loads.
The reason for introducing speed limits is to provide information to drivers about the type of road environment, the hazard frequency, and the appropriate maximum speed in clear conditions and to provide a means of prosecuting drivers who travel at inappropriately high speeds that are likely to cause danger to other road users.

20 mph Zones
A number of areas in Knowsley are 20mph zones, generally where traffic calming has been provided in residential areas.
