Residents parking permits
In areas where Residents Privileged Parking Schemes have been introduced, residents who keep and use a car, a van with an unladen weight not exceeding 35cwt (1,778kg) or motorcycle on a full-time basis will normally qualify for a permit subject to the vehicle being registered at an address located within the area covered by the scheme.
Businesses operating within a controlled zone area may also qualify for one permit. Permits must be displayed prominently within the vehicle at all times when parked within the confines of the Residents Parking Scheme.
Spaces are available to all persons displaying a valid permit on a first come-first served basis but cannot be reserved outside specific properties for use by individuals.

Who qualifies for a visitors permit?
Only one transferable visitors permit can be issued to each household. Businesses operating within a controlled zone may also qualify for one visitors permit. The visitors permit is issued in addition to the residents parking permit.
Note for blue badge holders
In accordance with the blue badge scheme you may park for up to three hours on single or double yellow lines at the discretion of the Police and if the vehicle is not causing an obstruction to other highway users. You cannot park in resident permit holders spaces unless you also have a valid permit for the area.
How to use your permit
Visitors permits may only be given to those calling at the permit holders address. It is the householders responsibility to ensure that their permit is retrieved from a visitors vehicle at the end of their stay. All permits must be displayed clearly in the windscreen of the vehicle. The permit will let you park in any parking spaces which are reserved for permit holders.
