Local History

Knowsley has many local history collections at
Huyton
Library and Kirkby Library. Here you can find historic
maps, local newspapers and books for reference and loan to help you
find out about the history of Knowsley and the wider area.
Prescot Museum also has its
own collection of objects, photographs and
documents.
Each branch
library also has its own smaller collection of books and
maps.
We are always keen to acquire further material such as
photographs, publications and original records about local people,
organisations and events. So please think of us next time you clear
out the attic!
The Knowsley History website
captures the events of our time with a comprehensive archive about
the borough and a guestbook to share your stories and thoughts.
Two dogs book
Two Dogs is a
compilation of eight residents' memories of growing up
in Huyton from the 1940s to the 1970s.
Knowsley heritage walks
Knowsley has a wealth of history stretching back thousands of
years. See our guide to the highlights of Knowsley's
interesting past and visit some of the most historic spots the
borough has to offer.
Restoration project
Having secured a Heritage Lottery fund bid in 2006 for the
restoration of some of the historic milestones, crosses and

Lottery Fund, Knowsley Council has now begun the Conservation
Skills and Interpretation Project, ‘Look to the Future:
Celebrate our Past’. This important two year project
