South Kirkby Neighbourhood Area
Centrally located on Merseyside, Kirkby
consists primarlily of residential properties as well as industrial
parks and retail.
South Kirkby is made up of the three wards of
Kirkby Central, Cherryfield and Whitefield, and eight natural
neighbourhoods: Field Lane, Southdene East, Westvale,
Kirkby Industrial Park, Kirkby Town Centre,
Southdene West, Kirkby Central, Southdene /
Acornfield.
South Kirkby has excellent transport links.
The M58 connects to the north of Kirkby, while the A580 East
Lancashire Road and A508 run through the town. Kirkby also has a
bus station with frequent services to Liverpool and other parts of
Merseyside.
Kirkby Municipal Building is located on the
edge of the town centre, providing information and services from
Knowsley Council and Knowsley Housing Trust. Kirkby town
centre has a number of flagship stores such, as well as a
traditional outdoor market that trades on Tuesdays, Fridays and
Saturdays. The market has 150 stalls offering a wide variety of
food and non-food products.
The most notable landmark in Kirkby is the
grade II listed St Chad's Church. It was built in 1871 and is
situated just outside Kirkby town centre. The grade II Kirkby War
Memorial cross is also situated in the churchyard of St Chad's.
With an interesting heritage, Millbrook Park
Millennium Green is an area of natural beauty and host to a range
of habitats.
