North Kirkby Neighbourhood Area
North Kirkby is located at the most northern end of the
Knowsley, and consists of a mix of privately owned and socially
rented residential properties. The area contains the three
electoral wards of Shevington, Park and Northwood. There are
the natural neighbourhoods of Melling Mount / Shevington, Tower
Hill (Gas), Tower Hill (Electric), North Northwood, South Northwood
and Kirkby Park.
Kirkby train station is within the boundaries of North Kirkby
with trains direct to Liverpool City Centre and Wigan. The
M57 and M58 motorways are a short drive away.
North Kirkby has benefited from a number of regeneration
projects in recent years. The area is served by two excellent
Community Centres, one in Northwood, built in 2005, and the new
Tower Hill Primary Care Trust and Community Centre, built in 2005,
that brings together first class health, community and sports
facilities on one site.
As part of the £150m Building Schools for the Future programme,
All Saints Catholic Centre for Learning opened in Northwood in
January 2010. This centre provides first class
facilities for education and also facilities that the wider
community can access and use.
Plans for the regeneration of Kirkby Town Centre are still being
developed to include retail and leisure facilities. As well as its
green spaces, the council’s new Play
Pathfinder parks are providing fantastic play facilities at Old
Rough Park, Saxon Way, Copthorne and Mill Farm open
spaces.
Mill Farm is also the site for the annual Knowsley Junior
Angling Competition.
