Street lighting
A multi-million pound project to improve street lighting across
Knowsley began in August 2011.
During the four year scheme, 70% of street lights will be
replaced across the borough. Work will also be undertaken
along the M62 motorway to replace high-mast lights.
In addition, around 80% of the borough’s traffic signs will also
be replaced or upgraded over the next four years.
The new lighting will be state of the art and benefits
include:
- The ability to vary the level of lighting – decisions on the
levels of lighting will be taken on the basis of the needs of each
area of the borough
- A reduction in CO² emissions across the borough
- More intense light levels on some roads, which could assist in
the reduction of crime and night-time traffic accidents
- Clearer CCTV images
- Improvements to visibility
- Help to ensure that pedestrians, cyclists and drivers feel
safer
- Help to encourage more people to visit the borough during the
evening
A grant of £58m has been approved by the Department of Transport
to enable the scheme to go ahead in partnership with Tay Valley
Lighting (TVL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Scottish and Southern
Energy (SSE).
TVL have extensive experience in the sector and were chosen to
deliver the 25-year contract because they offered the best service
and best value for money. The first four years will be the
installation phase, and the remaining period will cover ongoing
maintenance.
Halewood South consultation event
Street lighting work will begin the Halewood South area in
January 2012.
Members of the Halewood South community are being invited to go
along to a consultation event where representatives from Knowsley
Council and TVL will be on-hand to answer any questions you may
have.
The event is being held on Monday 17 October at The Halewood
Centre on Roseheath Drive, Halewood, starting at 5.45pm.
The event will begin with a presentation outlining the street
lighting scheme, along with details of the timescales and benefits
it will bring to the area. This will last for around 15 minutes and
will be followed by an opportunity for residents to ask questions
until the event finishes at approximately 6.45pm.

Report a fault
If you discover a fault with any street light, illuminated sign
or bollard, please let us know. You
can report a fault online or by calling 0151 443 3100.
Some faults are classed as an emergency – please call 0151 443
3100 immediately to report any of the following:
- Bollard knockdown
- Bollard shell missing
- Damaged / unsafe lamppost, bollard or sign
- Door off / damaged unit / wires exposed
- Lanterns hanging
- Graffiti on the unit which is obscene, racist or offensive
- Street light leaning dangerously
We will endeavour to repair emergency faults within 24 hours and
standard repairs within 5 working days.
When you report the fault, please provide as much information as
possible, including:
- The identification number on the post (if available)
- Description of the item – whether it is a street light, sign or
bollard
- The name of the street and the number of the nearest house, or
other form of landmark
